I am having a very difficult time stomaching people like Oyster and Ashley Morris who sit on their behinds and shoot off their criticism of others. When was it that they had the guts or stamina, resources or backing to consider putting it all on the line and running for political office. Never, never, never.... and yet they feel that they have the right to judge and attack the character of Virginia Boulet, who for no other reason than caring about New Orleans, jumped into a campaign for mayor, so that she might apply her obvious skills and connections in a more useful way, to help turn New Orleans around.

These ignorant souls would have you believe that Miss Boulet should be given single-handed credit the election of Ray Nagin because, although the woman could not get herself elected, it would be her endorsement that would be uniquely responsible for the election of Ray Nagin in the runoff of 2006. Hogwash!

This notion is not only preposterous (that is silly, ridiculous, outrages, laughable), it is equally ignorant of any facts. To suggest that someone who could not get elected themselves has the power to sway the public to another direction when they had no luck in convincing the public that they themselves were “electable,” shows how very little these “criticism mongers” know about anything, let alone running for political office.

If Virginia Boulet thought for one moment that Ray Nagin was the best person for the job, she would not have run for office in the first place. Virginia Boulet thought that she could serve New Orleans’ needs better than could Ray Nagin. She obviously thought this before she decided to run, while she ran, and probably still does. If not, why subject herself to more ridicule from pseudonyms like Oyster and Ashley Morris? Only one possible answer. Attempting again to put herself in the best position that she can in order to help re-direct the city she loves.

When Virginia Boulet launches her website for City Council At-Large, just read about who the woman is and what she has done. Then compare her accomplishments to the profiles of Oyster and Morris. Shame on them!

I've also engaged in some Virginia Boulet criticism, but I criticized her more for defending the mayor when he came under fire at the beginning of this year, than I criticized her for the endorsement. Anything that helped bolster the mayor when he was weak contributed, if only in a small way, to another year (almost) of Nagin having his way with the council. I thought it was especially laughable that she called him a good steward of public finances.

Now, I read that she's grown disillusioned with the mayor's performance. I think she should be as willing to share her thoughts now as she was then; if she helped strengthen his hand in January, she should help weaken it in September. Anyway, I can't possibly vote for anybody who approves of the mayor's handling of city finances. The city has a top-heavy salary structure since the layoffs, yet he thought across-the-board pay raises were in order -- obviously political pay back against the firefighters. He doubled the sanitation budget, with two of the three contracts going to big donors, and he has a bloated PR budget. I could go on with more examples. I can get past the endorsement, but I can't take Boulet seriously as a city council candidate until she explains what she meant about the mayor and public finances.

My favorite part is not how you just cut and pasted your comment from my blog, but rather, how you still misspelled "outrageous".

False. I considered running for assessor 6th district in 2006.

"These ignorant souls would have you believe that Miss Boulet should be given single-handed credit the election of Ray Nagin because... her endorsement... would be uniquely responsible for the election of Ray Nagin in the runoff of 2006."

False. Boulet is co-responsible. Search my blog for "Couhig Conservative" and GNOR, and you'll see what I mean.

"Attempting again to put herself in the best position that she can in order to help re-direct the city she loves."

Her horrible decision to "put herself in the best position" inflicted enormous collateral damage to the city-- helping re-elect an incompetent laughingstock who can't control crime. Her subsequent defense of the Nagin administration reveals a that her capacity for stunning misjudgments is perhaps chronic.

I'll put my political judgment against hers any day of the week.

You are making a fallacious argument here. Oyster and "Ashley Morris" are unhappy that Boulet endorsed Nagin, period. They aren't saying her endorsement got Nagin elected. I don't know if it had anything to do with his winning. Many of her supporters voted for Landrieu because they knew better than to vote for Nagin, even if their candidate did not. You go on about how her endorsement didn't help Nagin win, but neither you or Virginia Boulet have explained the reasoning behind the endorsement itself. So she thought it was a good thing to do. Why? I'd like to know what he told her that got her onboard, so that I can assess whether or not a person of any discernment would have believed it. By the time of the run-off for Mayor, it was obvious that Ray Nagin needed to be given sodium pentothal before he would tell the truth.

I voted for Boulet in the mayoral primary, but I'll not vote for her again. Your argument is silly, focusing on how much her endorsement helped Nagin. The point is that she showed monumentally bad judgment in endorsing him, and thus I am unwilling to entrust our public good to someone so lacking in good judgment. She has had many, many months to come out and say that she was misled, that she regrets her endorsement, that the promise of Nagin's "first 100 days" was abandoned and so she abandons her trust in him...but we heard nothing from her until she came before us asking for our support as she seeks a position of public power once more.

The answer is no.

Oyster and Ashley have encouraged the citizen of New orleans to make informed decisions regarding the canidates they vote for. They serve a public good. You do not need to run for office to serve the public. Hell, even our elected officials fail to serve the public.

They do not speak for the city and do not try to.

For Virginia to criticize their attempts to encourage citizens to research their choices is deplorable.

(And I thought she was nuts for moving UNO and endorsing Nagin)

Now she discourages informed voters....guess that the olnly way she'll get elected.

Your ignorant attacks on Oyster and Ashley really make you look foolish. If your intent is to defend Boulet, you're doing a poor job.

Man, I really wanted Boulet in this race, but yall ran a terrible campaign. This blog post is just more evidence of that.
